Meet the eccentric kid making “potions” in the backyard while talking to spirits.

My name is Rickie Clavin (they/them) and I was raised by military parents on Cape Cod, MA. When I wasn’t with my mom on base, I was with her at the hair salon. I enjoyed watching the solace salons provide & my desire to help people heal in the beauty industry was formed after her tour in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Experience & Education

  • Upper Cape Cod Technical High School

    I attended a vocational high school & graduated top of my cosmetology class in 2010. When I developed health issues during my training, I started to investigate ingredient chemistry.

    During my research I also discovered the negative impact the industry has on our environment. From that point I made it my mission to understand how we as an industry (and society) can help our planet.

  • Bridgewater State University

    The lack of information available at the time lead me to college study. I graduated in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology & minor in Middle East Studies.

    With the help of my advisers, I curated my coursework to develop Green Grotto®. I studied chemistry in everyday life, environmentalism, arts for advocacy, communication, culture & consciousness, evolutionary nutrition + more.

  • Green Grotto® was founded in 2015 with the belief that timeless beauty is the product of a balanced body, mind & spirit. For 8 years we were a single-chair salon offering sustainable beauty services. Now, Rickie Clavin provides energetic support for artists & small business owners also committed to making a positive impact in their area of expertise.

  • I am a third generation psychic medium. I primarily work with the energies of the land, drawing inspiration from animist traditions of the Americas and North Asian Shamanism. I also practice folk magic from my Portuguese & Irish ancestry.

    My approach to my spiritual practice combines information gifted to non-descendants by Indigenous leaders worldwide with Celtic Paganism. I am also inspired heavily by Buddhism, Hinduism, Ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian mythology.
